Are there MIDI commands to control those or is there some sort linxu proprietary interface? Korg included a link to a free download for windows and mac, but when I downloaded it I discovered that it was just a plug-in for commercial software that you had to already have.

You could try nano-basketa little Python script to configure the device. You may not transfer the Licensed Program to another computer through a network. If supplied in conjunction with any Korg instrument or equipment, such Third Party Software shall only relate to the non-essential functions of such instrument or equipment. I succeeded to install the driver and the Korg Kontrol Editor with wine, but if I well understood the discussion topic here, it's just to configure the pad, but not to make some sound with the pad. The Akai offer was also tempting, but I namopad that with a price of 50 Euros none of them would be wrong korf money and went with the Nanopad. The Korg Kontrol Editor installer will start up.
